Documenting your audiences awareness level

The goal in metrics awareness is to get your target audience to the mental place where they are ready to select and sign off on the metrics that they are going to implement. The easiest way to do this is to maintain a list of people within the various target audience groups and annotate their level of involvement. In other words, you'll send a write-up to whatever highest level person running the campaign (or highest level person who cares about the topic at hand) stating who you've heard from and their level of interest in the topic. That will garner one of two responses; either (a) that person will feel the list is complete and each person's level of interest is high enough; or (b) that person will not feel the list is complete and will suggest names to be added, and for those on the list that person might want more or less involvement.

Once you've met your reporting requirement for awareness, you are ready to move on to other areas of your compliance process, such as formalizing the topic at hand (metrics) into your policies and procedures.
